New Cross Fire Station Open Day - 16 Aug 2025
The New Cross Fire Foundation (NCFF) had an interesting and fulfilling experience at the New Cross Station open day on 16 August.
The NCFF has a strong partnership with the LFB and the two organisations are working together on a range of initiatives, including public and community engagement.
The NCFF used the open day to launch phase one of its public consultation regarding a new national monument to the 1981 New Cross Fire.
This initial phase of consultation involves ideas-gathering and listening to people about how a monument might make them feel, what emotions it might evoke, and what form or features might best reflect those feelings and emotions. Several different engagement methods were provided, including a questionnaire and a word-cloud activity.
It proved to be a busy day and virtually everyone who attended the open day engaged with the NCFF stall and participated in the consultation!
Director of History and Heritage, John Price, commented:
“We had a brilliant day, met lots of people, had some great conversations, and collected valuable data for the consultation. We felt very welcomed and supported by everyone at the New Cross Station which made it very enjoyable and productive day”.
